El Cajon, CA – Fatal Cycling Accident at Dehesa Rd & Willow Glen Dr
El Cajon, CA (January 26, 2020) – On Monday, January 20th, a cyclist was killed after being struck by a vehicle in El Cajon, California. The deadly crash took place near the intersection of Dehesa Road, just east of Willow Glen Drive. The cyclist was traveling in a bike lane when the driver, identified as Craig Nelson, 56, of Julian, California, hit him from behind on Dehesa Road EB.
For unknown reasons, Nelson’s 1993 Mitsubishi Mirage entered the bike lane and collided with the cyclist, who was ejected onto the windshield of the car before falling to the ground. Nelson reportedly fled the scene, abandoning his vehicle, and attempted to evade authorities. He was later found and taken into custody by the California Highway Patrol under charges of vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run.
The cyclist was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, California, where he was later pronounced dead. Local authorities are currently investigating the crash.
