Encinitas, CA – U-Haul Crashes into Crowd at Bar on S Coast Hwy 101
Encinitas, CA (March 1, 2020) – A U-Haul drove into a crowd outside of a bar in Encinitas, California early Sunday morning, March 1st, injuring three people. The San Diego County Sherriff’s Office was notified of a van driving into a crowd of people at the 500 block of South Coast Highway 101 at around 1:19 a.m. The driver of the van had been detained by parties at the scene when authorities arrived.
Initial reports revealed that the driver of the van was a patron at The Saloon Bar where he was asked to leave due to his level of intoxication. After being made to leave, the man got into his rental U-Haul and intentionally crashed into the crowd outside the bar. Three people were injured in the crash.
One injured victim was taken to Palomar Medical Center while two others were transported to Scripps La Jolla Hospital, all listed to be in serious condition. The driver of the van, identified as Christian Davis, 28, was arrested for three counts of attempted murder and DUI. An ongoing investigation into the crash is currently in progress.
