San Diego, CA – Woman Injured in Hit-&-Run at Genesee Ave

San Diego, CA (April 4, 2020) – A 27-year-old man has been taken into custody under suspicions of drunken driving following a hit-and-run crash on Thursday, April 2nd. The man reportedly downed a utility pole at the 4800 block of Genesee Avenue, south of Clairemont Mesa Boulevard, that fell and struck a 68-year-old woman. The man, later identified as Pedro Matias-Perez, then fled the scene on foot along with his 25-year-old passenger.

According to local reports, the man’s 2006 Chevy Silverado struck the median on the roadway at around 3:35 p.m., overcorrected, rolled over, and struck the pole. The pole disconnected from its base and struck the pedestrian who was near the roadway. She was taken to the hospital to treat a deep gash on the back of her head and other injuries.

Matias-Perez was later taken into custody and charged with suspicion of DUI and felony hit-and-run. An ongoing investigation into the crash is underway.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
